Sustainability

Ypê and Sustainability

Our path is driven by the desire to make the world a better place. From the beginning to the end, we put love and responsibility into every product we create, considering your well-being and the health of our home, the Planet Earth.

Our journey is evident in real actions, in projects we build together with everyone who shares this same purpose.

Our focus is on the future, with Vision, Mission, and Values that shape our culture of Sustainability. We embrace the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and apply ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles to everything we do.

The Materiality Matrix is a tool that helps Ypê  identify and prioritize issues with greater economic, environmental, and social impacts on our business. Here, we concentrate our energies on eight vital themes:

Commitment to Our People

Education Programs

Ypê continues to grow and evolve! Through tailor-made education programs, our people learn and deepen their skills and technical knowledge.

Best Companies to Work For

We have received the GPTW (Great Place to Work) Seal for the second consecutive year, recognizing Ypê as one of the best companies to work for.

Women on Board Seal

In collaboration with UN Women, we are expanding women's participation in our administrative and advisory boards.

Currently, Ypê's Board of Directors has a female representation of almost 40%, which is about 2.5 times higher than the national average.

Volunteer Program

Guided by the values of Education, Environment, Philanthropy, and Social Assistance, we carry out community initiatives that not only generate positive impacts but also reinforce essential principles such as citizenship, ethics, governance, and cooperation.

Socio-Environmental Responsibility and Conscious Consumption

We are fully aware of our social responsibility, aligning it with our Vision, Mission, and Values, and the purpose of building a better world. In this journey, we support initiatives that truly make a difference in society.

One such partnership is with the SOS Mata Atlântica Foundation, a Brazilian environmental NGO active since 1986 in promoting public policies for the conservation of the Atlantic Forest. Together, we are involved in projects such as Ypê Forests, Observing the Rivers, and Rivers Free Of Plastic, aiming at environmental preservation.

We also maintain a solid bond with the Spiritist Service for Child Protection (SSCP), a non-profit welfare institution that has been serving about 760 children and adolescents annually for nearly five decades, reflecting our commitment to the care and development of future generations.

Other Projects supported by us:

Association for Children and Adolescents with Cancer (TUCCA)

A project to increase cure rates and improve the quality of life of underprivileged young people with cancer.

Pathway Mansion

Offers welfare activities to about 5,000 people daily.

Financial Education Games

We support the implementation of Financial Education Games in public schools in the municipalities where our production units are located.

Water

Water is the essence of our trajectory, and caring for it is at the heart of what we do. As we expand our business, our responsibility also grows. Today, we have a handful of initiatives inside and outside the factories.

Rainwater Harvesting

Since 1977, we have been harvesting rainwater in Amparo (SP - Brazil), and this practice has grown over time. In 2012, we adopted several measures to reduce water use in our production by 19%.

Today, our units in Anápolis (GO - Brazil) and Simões Filho (BA - Brazil) also have roofs designed for the rainwater harvesting and tanks for storaging and later use in manufacturing processes.

With this, in 2022 we saved 20,140.71 m3 of water from utilities and wells, contributing to the rational use of this natural resource.

Filtering Gardens

Our manufacturing unit in Anápolis (GO - Brazil) implemented filtering garden biotechnology for the treatment of industrial effluents, domestic effluents, and water reuse.

In 2022, 1,845 m³ of effluents were treated, certified in quality, and 100% of the resulting water from the process was reused in toilets and for irrigating the green areas from the unit itself.

Reuse of Treated Effluent

Ypê's units have Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs) that treat all water from production processes and domestic sewage. After its treatment, the resulting water is reused in the facilities of the units themselves in industrial processes or landscaping.

In 2022 alone, Ypê avoided consuming 1,192,213 m3 of water from rivers and wells, contributing to the preservation of water resources and representing economic gains for the company.

Use of Sustainable Materials and Inputs

At Ypê, we have a Research & Development area for new products, packaging, and sustainability, meeting society's needs without harming the planet.

Sustainable Lines

This led to the creation of the Ypê Green line, developed after extensive research to meet the growing demand for cleaning products that have a lower impact on the environment.

In addition to the Ypê Green line, we launched the Ypê Flower line of plant-based soaps, formulated with oils of plant origin, without the addition of animal-derived ingredients, and certified by the Brazilian Vegetarian Society (BVS).

Reduction of Plastic Use in Packaging

Ypê works hard to increasingly reduce the use of plastics in packaging. Thanks to our Innovation and Sustainability area, it was possible to significantly reduce the amount of inputs used in our products.

For example, we reduced the mass of the Traditional Fabric Softener 5L bottle by 34.4%. In the Tixan Ypê Liquid Laundry Detergent, we reduced the mass of the dosing cap by 28%, and the thickness of the primary packaging of the Steel Wool by 20%.

Use of Recycled Raw Materials in Packaging

Besides our ongoing effort to reduce plastic use, we are increasingly using recycled raw materials in our packaging.

For over 20 years, we have used recycled PET resin in our packaging manufacturing. Additionally, the cardboard boxes that transport our products are also made, on average, with 30% recycled material from other packaging.

Value Chain and Responsible Supply

We always strive to ensure an ethical value chain. We comply with the rules and legislation, with no exception. We also improve the way we choose our partners, which helps in safety, transparency, and our brand strategy.

Moreover, we drive the development of sustainable solutions and encourage our suppliers to adopt the best practices in their own supply chains. After all, working together for our well-being and for the planet is our constant goal.

Ethics, Integrity, and Anti-Corruption

We are recognized by the Union General Controllership (UGC) as a Pro-Ethics Company 2020-2021, taking a public and voluntary commitment in favor of ethics in business and anti-corruption.

Since 2020, Ypê has also been a signatory of the Business Pact for Integrity and Against Corruption, an initiative by the Ethos Institute that seeks to promote a more integral and ethical market.

Energy and Climate

Seeking to do our part in the fight against climate change, we are committed to reducing the consumption of non-renewable energy and adopting more environmentally friendly logistic options, such as cabotage, railways, and electric vehicles.

We invested R$ 26.5 million in a system that uses biomass, a renewable fuel, to generate heat in the powder laundry detergent production at our factories in Amparo and Salto (SP - Brazil).

This initiative reduced our greenhouse gas emissions by an incredible 50% between 2017 and 2019. We want to continue innovating to protect the planet we all share.
