It’s worth taking care of Hope
Since 2002, Ypê contributes with the TUCCA Association – Associação para Crianças e Adolescentes com Câncer (Association for Kids and Adolescents with Cancer), a nonprofit established in 1998 by doctors, patients’ parents and representatives of civil society, with the proposal to increasing cure rates and improving the quality of life of disadvantaged youth bearing cancer.
The Association works to improve the diagnostics process by means of sophisticated exams, search of new therapeutical strategies, scientific research and training of professional staff through scholarships, internships, courses or discussion forums.
Beyond treating the disease, TUCCA acts in assisting the child and adolescent in their totality, regarding their physical, psychological, social, educational, vocational and legal aspects. For that matter, it possesses a multidisciplinary team composed of oncologists, psychologists, neuropsychologists, physiotherapists, speech therapists and social workers, accompanying patients and families during the whole cancer treatment.
In 2013, the institution opened the TUCCA Hospice Francesco Leonardo Beira, the first pediatric hospice in Brazil where the patients receive the necessary end-of-life care, such as comfort, attention and multidisciplinary assistance accompanied by their relatives. The Hospice concept of care is to provide quality of life, pain control and comfort 24 hours a day for cancer patients, aged zero to 18 years, with no chance of cure, with their families.
